I recently bought a 2000 Mustang, a V6 coupe with five speed. Never did the muscle car thing in my youth, now I see what all the fuss was about. Only 190 hp, but it's fast enough to scare me. Looking for excuses now to drive places, for the first time in thirty years at least.
Ahhh the golden age of "muscle cars." In hindsight I should've bought up Chevrolet 396/427 porcupine head big blocks, Dodge hemi 426s, and of course Ford 427s, I would probably be a rich man today. I long for the old days of Pontiac Tri-Power, 2-4 BBL Carters & Holleys, etc
I bought a 62 vette in 1969 and had for about 15 years, the last incarnation had a 365 horse 327 and a 2:2 Muncie with 4:11 rear end.
Fast forward to today ... 2 months ago I got a 2010 Z06 vette. Now you talk about torque this baby has it and 505hp on an Aluminum frame. That real giddy-up!

I can tell you for a fact they do get unbelievable mileage for what they can do! Unless you get a lead foot its not working at all. About 1200 rpms @ 60.
Bowtie.... are you fortunate enough to have a 427? Buddy had a 67 L88 Corvette with 560 HP (rather rare). We didnt know it was special.... It didnt even have a radio from the factory. Heater and a key. Worth $$$$ now.
He sold it back then for $2500.00 and I couldnt afford it...

Sadly, no muscle cars here since the very early 90's. Sold the last of my parts stash in '98 to buy my first PC, then found out about ebay and the value of what i "gave away" years prior. My 427 car was a '67 Impala Super Sport, then a '70 chevelle w/open chamber LS-7 454, and my last street toy was a '69 SS Nova original 396 car w/an unknown build solid lift 454. The nova was twisting itself apart, and i was truly no longer interested in wrenching on cars so down the road it went.Bowtie.... are you fortunate enough to have a 427?
I was lucky enough to have older brothers with the muscle car bug that i got to experience a lot of the best GM and Mopar had to offer from the golden era at one point or another. I was not old enough to drive the Hemi Challenger or the Superbird, but still have many fond memories. The Superbird i am told is currently undergoing a proper restoration including replacement of the original aluminum nose, my bro bought it wrecked and as his grocery clerk budget dictated, he put it back together with a satellite front clip. Here's a couple ooooooold pics for the Mopar lovers. I didn't get to drive any of those, but got to wash em all many times.

I rode in a buddys twin turbo 02 Vette a few weeks back. I bet yours is faster.
I drive an 06 Cobalt SS supercharged with a GM stage 2 upgrade. the Cobalt SS was also built by the GM performance group.
My other car is a street driven 69 nova with a 700hp 496 under the hood. More when I hit the button!

Guess I can chime in here. First car was a 1960 Belair two door post. It was a 283/Powerglide when I bought it. Sold it seven years later with a 12.0:1 350/Muncie 4-sp & 4.56:1. Obviously, gas was gas, and mileage wasn't a budget item.
Second car was a 1961 Impala 2 door bubble top. Factory solid cam 348 tri-power/4-sp.
Third was a 1968 Corvette 'vert, modded L-79 327/Muncie 4-sp/4.11:1.
For the past 23 years, I've been playing with a computer controlled EFI 1985 IROC-Z. Ditched the 305 it came with some 17 years ago. Replaced it with a stroked 350 (383). Rear has been a 3.70:1 Ford 9" since 1990. It passes the California sniffer every two years, and only see's about 400 miles a year now. There are no more drag strips within a reasonable distance anymore, but did manage a best 12.41 @ 111 in 2002 (last time out) on the motor. 11.37 @ 121 with a little laughing gas. Forged bottom, AFR 195's, Isky roller, lingenfelter intake.
My Altec's are much easier for me to drive nowadays.
